Why Self-Publish?
Of the many reasons given for self-publishing, a recent Armadillo client cited: "I have been fully published before, but had to do all the promotional work myself to get my books sold. Even with a big publisher, I had to do the signings, go on the talk shows, do all the legwork. I decided I may as well publish my new book myself, since I do all the work anyway."
Another of our clients felt he owed it to the literary body to self-publish. He said, "My wife and I believe in what I'm writing and decided I should put my money where my mouth is. So I am self-publishing just to get my words out there. Besides, I didn't want to wait out the horrendous amount of time required for the submission and publication by a conventional publisher."
Another writer simply wanted to print a number of copies of his father's biography so future generations in his family would have the opportunity to share the memory.
Often, there are niche books which the large publishers are unwilling to take on, but which authors are able to succeed with on their own. Such specialized (often "how-to") books can be targeted at specific markets and sold through mail order or at seminars. And because they are self-published, the author receives a much larger share of profits from his book.
Self-publishing can be monetarily, professionally and personally rewarding.
